Summer Jobs - Wheelhouse roof
<< Previous |
We could use normal stainless steel screws to attach the fittings but had to drill pilot holes that allowed some expansion and contraction of the panels with temperature.
Tilly managed to always be in the way (as is her job) but after much huurrumphing she found some comfortable places to sleep, close to the action but not quite underfoot.
I am not sure about this position squashed under the table.

The front 3 sections needed to be joined to the aft 3 sections with a demountable joint so we made up 10mm thick strips of Vekaplan with neoprene seals to sit over the join. These strips were bolted to similar pieces on the inside, effectively clamping the fore and aft sections together. A gap was left between the forward and aft sections to allow for the expansion and contraction of the Vekaplan in very hot and cold weather respectively. It can change in length by up to 16mm over the length of the roof which could cause it to buckle if it was secured too tightly in place.
